

Mary Ruth Holmes, 90, of Pilot Point, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at her home. She was born April 9, 1925 in Brownsville, TX to Jack and Lydia (Hernandez) Howard. She was married to Hollis Jack Holmes.
Mary was formerly of Beaumont, TX and has lived in Pilot Point, TX for 15 years. She supported organizations that helped veterans and animals, such as the Humane Society of the United States, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Mary volunteered during the holidays as a translator for the Shepherd's Storehouse which helps those in need.
She enjoyed country music, especially George Jones. She loved red roses, talking about fond memories, and the color red. Mary was proud of her two daughters, but especially proud of her two grandsons and great-grandson.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lydia and husband Terry Damrel of Vidor, TX, Rose Mary and husband Drexel Boswell of Pilot Point, TX; two stepsons, Carol Gene and wife Sandra Holmes, Hollis Junior and wife Sue Holmes; two grandsons, Dustin and wife Jamie Damrel, Levi Boswell; eight step-granchildren, Veronica Blackledge, Vincent Blackledge, Angie Blackledge, Kathy Holmes, Carol Holmes, Dallas Holmes, Roman Holmes, and Hollie Holmes; one great-grandson, Dashton Damrel; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Joseph Henry Howard, sister-in-law, China Howard; and step-daughter, Betty Lon Blackledge.
Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
