

Opal was born in Beaumont, Texas, on October 1, 1922, to Fred and Lee Dovie Theobald.
Opal was a warm and caring wife, mother, aunt, cousin and friend to all who knew her. Opal was a "giver" , not a "taker". For all who remember her, wether family or friends, her memory will occupy a very warm and loving part of all our memories.
Opal's family and friends loved to go to her home, as she was a warm and welcoming hostess. She always had something wonderful to serve them. Opal was "famous" for her Southern cooking, homemade pies, cookies and other desserts. Her cooking was so tasty and always made from "scratch". olf Association of the Beaumont Country Club.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Horace F. (Shorty) Smith; sisters, Ruby Hammonds, Katy Hamm, Shirley Brammer and brother, David H.Theobald, Sr.
Opal is survived by her loving daughters, Becky Waterfield and Linda Rodgers, as well as their husbands, Joe Waterfield and Leon Rodgers, granddaughters, Lauren Waterfield and Lindsey Waterfield Wagner and Lindsey's husband, John Wagner, and their three daughters ( and Opal's great granddaughters, Hayden Wagner, Ainsley Wagner and Emerson Wagner ), brothers, Fred Theobald, Jr. of Beaumont, Texas and Mahlon Theobald of Douglasville, Georgia. Opal's descendants reside in or near Dallas, Texas.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Mondy, July 16, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
