Christopher Brian “Proudfoot” Carey was born in Minneapolis, MN on February 26, 1971. He moved with his family to Portland, OR shortly after his birth. He received a double Associates Degree from Portland Community College in Arts and Music Business. Chris loved baseball, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and films and books. However, he sincerely hated fruit. But above all he loved music.
Chris played guitar and bass in numerous bands over his lifetime, such as, Frankie Machine & the Stiffs, Religious War, Burning Leather, Deathcharge, Defiance, The Flagellan and Bleeding Fire. He was most noted for his membership in Poison Idea and Dead Conspiracy. Chris was loved by an international fan base as ‘Spider’. He was honored by the Oregon Historical Society (OHS) for his innovative contributions to heavy metal and punk music. With total dedication he poured his soul into music.
He had an enormous heart, a joyful spirit and an immense well of creativity. Because of this he was a safe harbor in a stormy night for many. Chris had a huge circle of friends who loved him dearly and whom he loved back. This circle extended all over the city, the country and the world. He bravely stood up for others and welcomed everyone into his life.
Chris will be missed everyday by all who knew and loved him. We know the Great Spirit will welcome him.
Chris is survived by his mom and dad, Tim and Susan Carey; his siblings Shawn Carey (Crystal), Brigit Sheremeta (Joey), Katy Carey (Timothy) and Hilary Miller. Chris loved his niece Savannah Carey and nephews Hunter Carey and Jeff Sheremeta. He is loved by his Aunt Wendy and Uncle Bruce, Aunt Diane and Uncle Steve and his cousins Ryan, Scott and Morgan.
A private family service will be held.
