
Ed was born on October 3, 1953 in Binghamton, New York, the son of Edward William Foltyn and Anna Marie (Derrick) Foltyn. He graduated from Binghamton High school in 1972 and attended Broome Community College where he received an associate's degree before working in Delaware. He returned to school at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York receiving both a Bachelor of Science and a Master's of Science in Civil Engineering. He moved to New Hampshire in the early 1980s where he worked in the Cold Regions Research Engineering Laboratory. In 2006 Ed relocated to Oregon and began working in the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Ed kept himself well entertained with his numerous hobbies including scuba diving, riding his motorcycles, fly fishing, astronomy, wood working, HAM radio, and hunting. Ed donated blood every 8-12 weeks for decades. Ed met his wife while both volunteered on Cornish Rescue Squad in New Hampshire.
Ed married Deborah Allen Foltyn in 1991 in a double ceremony with Deborah's sister, Jennifer Allen and Wayne Luscombe.
Ed is survived by his wife, Deborah Foltyn, his daughter, Allison Foltyn, his sisters Karen Derrick and Patricia Abrams (Jim) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Michael Foltyn.
