Josephine Moore was born in Portland, OR March 18, 1931, the daughter of Italian immigrants Amedeo and Isabella Ciotti. Her only sibling, Jimmy V. Ciotti, died November, 1980. Like many Italians, she and her family faced severe hardships with poverty and discrimination. Nevertheless, with hard work and an undying faith in God, Josephine grew to be a remarkable woman.
She married John Moore August 9, 1952 and were blessed with 4 sons, Steve (Cheryl), David, John and Daniel (Shelly). She is also survived by beautiful granddaughters Burgandy, Annalisha, Adrianna, Valentina, Olivia and Chelsea, as well as step grandchildren Alicia, Jeremy, Isabella, Sophia, Paula and great grandchildren, Gabriella, AJ, Micha and Oliver.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years John, grandchildren Dustin, Emily and Alexandria Moore and great grandson Jayden.
Josephine was the true matriarch of our family in every sense. Her home was always welcome to family and friends. It seemed like every week, she hosted wonderful meals and on Holidays we were gifted with her incredible ravioli and Italian meatballs! She was a master of the Italian language and was an instructor of Italian through Portland Community College and also taught Italian cooking. She had a steadfast love of God and her Catholic faith which anchored her during difficult times. We were so blessed to have had her in our lives and will miss her deeply!
Josephine died peacefully in her sleep at home April 26, 2026, at the age of 95.
