

Lawrence Noble Crawley was born October 19, 1921 to Lawrence and Edith Preston Crawley. He attended schools in Seattle before entering civilian pilot training in Wenatchee, WA. Upon completion of pilot training, he entered the military and enjoyed a long and accomplished career in the Marines including being awarded the Navy Cross.
He married Mary Lou O’Neil in May of 1944. He retired as a Lt Colonel, moving the family from Southern California to Oregon. They divorced and he later married Mary Ellen Bailey Duyn in 1982. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church.
Larry was admired by all of those who knew him but especially the sailors and family of SS Hugh Hadley, a ship he is credited with saving during WWII. He was an accomplished pilot, both fixed wing and helicopters, he was a true gentleman, never missed a meal and was a very loving man. He placed a tremendous amount of value on family, health and freedom. He was a true hero.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his only sibling, Amy Malone, his son, William Lawrence Crawley and granddaughter, Megan Winkler. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, his children, Peggy Gray, Christopher Crawley, Deborah Crawley Watkins, Maureen Roemmick, Anne Crawley-Putz, Catherine Winkler Sandoval and his stepchildren, Dorothy Blasing, Joseph Duyn, Ray Duyn, Carol Murray and Jim Duyn. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 1 p.m., preceded by recitation of the Holy Rosary at 12:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 12250 SW 5th Street in Beaverton. Private interment will occur at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
