

Lois Gillespie passed away at age 95 on November 23,2012. She was the
youngest daughter of Nora Etherington-Featheringill and Arnaldo Featheringill,
born on 4/2/1917 in Great Falls, Montana. Lois spent her early life in Whitman
county, Washington , graduating from Palouse High School as class valedictorian
in 1934. She married Roy Gillespie in Pullman, Washington in 1947, who was a
civil engineer with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in Colfax, Washington. Lois
was a long-time Beaverton resident, having moved there in 1953 when Roy was
transferred to the U.S.C.S. Portland office, and was one of the early Tektronix
employees from 1953 to 1968 as a secretary. After both retired they became
ardent boaters and fishermen out of Ilwaco, Washington at the coast with a
charter boat. They were also very active in the Portland U..S. Power Squadron,
which is a boater’s organization devoted teaching boaters about navigation
and safety. Lois was very interested in what was going on and subscribed to
three newspapers which also supplied her with crossword puzzles. She also
was an active book reader and her inquiring mind took her to studies on
flying saucers and bigfoot. Another interest was in obtaining helpful gadgets.
In her later years after selling her home, Lois moved into a unit at the Village at
Forest Glen in Beaverton and lived there for eight years being independent until
past ninety years old. While there she was especially fond of the library and was
was one of the library attendants.
Lois was proceeded in death by her husband Roy and her older sister Elma
Anderson of Troy, Idaho. She is survived by her son Richard Brenner of
Forest Grove, Oregon, grandaughter Alletta Brenner-O’Sullivan of Allston,
Massachusetts, granddaughter Kendra Swartz of Princeton Junction, New
Jersey, great grandson Jasper Brenner-O’Sullivan, nephew Alan Anderson of
Moscow, Idaho, niece Donna Thorpe of Lynnwood, Washington and her
Dutch sons Bert Tenkate and. Wim Velsink of Beaverton. Lois was their
American mom after they came over from the Netherlands to work at Tektronix.
As she requested, there will be no funeral service, but a later gathering of her
family and friends is planned for next summer. The family suggests that any
remembrances be donations in her name to the Beaverton City Library.
