

Margaret Ellen Lee died peacefully on Dec. 26, 2011 at Legacy Meridian Park Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 22 in Pipestone, Minnesota and kept the year of her birth a secret, even her sons had a difficult time remembering the actual year. As a child, her family moved from Minnesota to Canada, then to Seattle and eventually settling in Portland where she graduated from Girls Poly High School.
She met her husband Henry Lee while living in Seattle with her grandmother. They married in Renton, Washington in 1941. Their daughter, Carole was born in 1943 and their son Rick came along in 1947. In 1950 they moved to Fresno, California where Henry and Margaret worked side by side, managing a Sprouse Reitz variety. Their youngest child, Keith was born in 1958. They returned to the Portland area in 1964. Henry retired in 1984 and they took numerous road trips across the United States. They were married for 53 years until Henry’s death in 1994. Margaret’s seven granddaughters and 3 great grandchildren were the joy of her life and she always showered them with love. “Momer” was her nick name given by her first 2 grandchildren loved to babysit her grandchildren was the best grandmother a child could have.
After Henry’s passing, she volunteered at the St. Vincent’s Auxiliary Gift Shop and the Legacy Cellar Gift shop. She enjoyed all of her volunteering and it brought her much joy and always bought new holidays items to share with her family.
She is survived by her 3 children, Carole Hughes (Jim, who died in 1997), Richard Lee (Vickie) and Keith Lee (Misty), 7 granddaughters, Carrie, Jenny, Samantha, Shannon, Amanda, Courtney and Rebecca, plus her 3 great-grand children, Emerson, Elliot and Tucker, who all brought her much joy.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 from 9 am to noon at Pegg, Paxson, & Springer Funeral Chapel.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Finley Sunset Hills Cemetery at 2pm.
