

Marion Lucille “Johnnie” Scrivens, 96, of Laurel Parc, Portland, Ore., passed away on Sept. 21, 2016. Marion was born on the family farm in Perth County, Ontario, Canada on March 30, 1920 to Delmer and Verda Johnston. She went to school in the local one-room school and high school in St. Mary’s, Ontario. After high school, she graduated from the Victoria Hospital School of Nursing, in London, Ontario as a registered nurse and was forever after known as “Johnnie”. After graduation, she moved to Kapuskasing, Ontario, becoming a nurse at the local hospital where she met her future husband, Donald Scrivens, who was an engineer at the paper mill. They were married on June 23, 1951 in Kirkton, Ontario.
After moving to Rochester, NY, and raising two sons, Johnnie started a new career as a nurse’s aide in the Presbyterian retirement home in Rochester. They moved to Portland, Ore. in 1993. Don and Johnnie lived in Cedar Hills and Raleigh Hills, and are members of the Valley Community Presbyterian Church. Johnnie had a passion for sewing, quilting, baking, and collecting owl figurines.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Audrey Baker. She is survived by her beloved husband; sons Ross (Jan), Blair (Cindy); and grandchildren Steve, Brian (Aimee), and Emily.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
