

Myrel Leslie Petersen Nelson, of Portland, Oregon, passed away on October, 26, 2014. She was born May 9, 1944, in Havre, MT and was raised on the family farm northwest of Big Sandy, MT. While growing up she helped with all the farm chores including driving tractor and driving truck for harvest. Her dad always said his girls were the best hired help he had. She graduated from Big Sandy High School and attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT. In 1964 she married Ron Nelson. In 1971 her family moved to Portland and has called it home ever since. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she helped teach Sunday school. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s music and athletic events. Myrel also enjoyed reading, sewing, stitchery and playing bridge, but her passion was volunteering at The Cellar at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon. All proceeds from The Cellar went to RIO, Legacy Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon.
Myrel was preceded in death by her parents, Marinus L. Petersen and Margaret Miner Petersen and two sisters, Mardece P. Terry and Mavis P. Mohar. She is survived by her daughter, Reagan N. Jeffers and son-in-law Steve as well as grandchildren Nelson, Jamie, and Georgina. She is also survived by two sisters, May McLees of Three Forks, MT and Marcia Hashley and her husband David of Kalispell, MT, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
