

Ray Lee Looney of Powell Butte, Oregon, born May 2nd, 1940 in Gold Beach, Oregon, died at his son’s home in Tigard, Oregon on September 15th, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Marie and Maynard Gayland Looney, and his brother Gordon Looney. He is survived by his wife Maxine; brother Steven Looney and his wife, Judy; children Daniel Lee Looney and his wife Maryanne, Gayland Ray Looney and his wife Patty, and Alice Marie Thurman and her husband Chuck; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Ray graduated from Camas Valley High School in 1958 and married his high school sweetheart, Maxine, on June 25th, 1960 in Camas Valley, Oregon. After graduation he worked for the State Forestry as a firefighter at Buck Springs Camp near Camas Valley, and retired in 1991 after 31 years as a Supervisory Forestry Technician, serving on the Tiller Ranger District and Diamond Lake Ranger District on the Umpqua National Forest. Ray and Maxine lived in Flagstaff, Arizona from 1995 to 1999, Montrose, CO from 1999 to 2008, and moved to Powell Butte, Oregon in 2008. Ray was a member of Wellspring Baptist Church in Roseburg, OR and attended Prineville Community Church until his death. Ray enjoyed reading, wood carving, fishing and hunting, and studying the Bible. He was well known for his kindness, patience, integrity, quick wit, and humble attitude. He will be missed.
