

Robert Barclay Cochrane, resident of Beaverton and Portland, OR (86) passed quietly in his sleep Sunday, February 27th, 2022. Robert or "Bob" was born in Indianapolis, IN on September 20th, 1935 to parents Dr. Marvin and Frances Betty Cochrane. He graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1953. Shortly after high school Bob fulfilled his lifelong dream of going to college in the Northwest. He enrolled in the Forestry program at University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. He spent the summers firefighting in Washington and Idaho forests. After two years, Bob joined the Navy. In the Navy, he was a constructionman in the U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion SEVEN - Barbados from December 1956 to October 1957. They were responsible for building the U.S. Naval facility in Barbados.
After his marriage to Kathryn Winnefeld, they both drove west to start a new life together. Bob was hired by Weyerhaeuser Lumber Company in their executive training program. Bob's career in the forest product industry took him to Los Angeles, California and Tacoma, Washington. They both eventually settled in Beaverton, Oregon where he managed the sale/distribution office for Weyerhaeuser.
By the mid 1970s Bob was employed with Louisiana-Pacific Lumber Company. In 1976 they transferred him to Anchorage, AK where he managed the Kenai Lumber Company (Division of LP.) Bob oversaw the Sales and Milling operation in Seward, AK. Ultimately, he went to work for Pope & Talbot Lumber in Portland, OR and retired in 2001. In 2017, Robert and Kathryn moved to West Hills Village Retirement community in Portland.
Survivors include Steven. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kathy, and son Bryan of Beaverton. At Robert's request there will be no services. However, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Medical Teams International and the Shriner's hospital for children. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical and care staff at Westhills Health and Rehab in Portland, OR. Their tireless dedication and hard work were greatly appreciated.
