

Ronald Jensen; devoted husband, father, grand and great grandfather, teacher and veteran passed away on May 3rd . He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gwyneth, daughter Linsey (Durand) and son-in-law Dale of Huntington Beach, CA, grandson Charles (Bend, OR), and great granddaughter Ailani. He is preceded in death by his son Kurt, his parents Sverre and Svanhilde, brothers Arne and Robert and sister Norma.
Ronald was born October 11, 1933 to Sverre and Svanhilde Jensen in Salt Lake City, UT. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America eventually earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Upon graduation from high school he went on to attend the University of Utah earning a BA. He did graduate work toward his PhD at the University of Washington. He served in the Army, stationed in Germany as a PFC. Ronald and Gwyneth were married in 1961 and would enjoy 55 years together. They lived in Seattle, WA for 32 years, moved to Deltona, FL in 1993 and moved to Beaverton in 2006 where they began attending St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
After serving in the Army, Mr. Jensen, as he was known to his students, taught in the Seattle area at West Seattle High, Blaine Jr. High and Rainier Beach for 32 years before retiring in 1993. He taught history as a profession, but it was also his passion. He devoured books on almost any area of history but especially enjoyed military history. Retirement offered an opportunity to volunteer, first with Citizens on Patrol in Deltona and then as chaplain of his American Legion post in Aloha, OR. He enjoyed spending time outdoors especially bicycling, kayaking and golfing. He also liked bowling a line or two with his family.
The memorial service for our beloved Ron will be Friday, May 13th at 2:00 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Beaverton, with military honors. His remains will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
