Sandra Elizabeth Simmons

Born on August 12, 1939, Sandra was the cherished daughter of Anne and Oliver Cromwell Stephens Jr. She was married to the late Dr. Robert D. Simmons for 56 years; he was her dutiful and loving husband until his death in 2018. Together, they raised three children: Eric (Sherry), Laura (Don), and Jennifer (Bertony), who were the center of her world. Sandra’s legacy lives on through her six grandchildren: Tylin (Nicholas), Quinn, Shane, Clare, Miles, and Jacqueline, each of whom brought her endless joy.

Born and raised in Louisville Kentucky, she moved to Portland, Oregon and enjoyed over 50 years living there. She passed away peacefully Thursday morning.

Sandra was a woman of warmth, grace, and immense compassion. She was deeply involved in her community, dedicating many years of service as a volunteer with friends of Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and as a loyal member of the Seminary Tea Committee. Her generous spirit and love for helping others has made a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Sandy had a deep passion for travel, enjoying many adventures throughout her life. Whether exploring new places with her family or experiencing the beauty of different cultures, she treasured every opportunity to create lasting memories.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, sister Linda, and brother Charles, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will continue to honor her memory.

Sandy was a woman who gave so much love and kindness to everyone she met. Her unwavering devotion to her family and her tireless volunteer work reflected the core of who she was—selfless, loving, and always willing to lend a hand. Her family and friends will miss her deeply, but they find comfort knowing her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she impacted.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at St. Mary's Cathedral, 1716 N.W. Davis Street, Portland, OR 97209, followed by a reception at Abbey Creek Winery, 31441 NW Commercial St, North Plains, OR 97133. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sandra’s memory to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. www.give.ohsufoundation.org
