Sr. Alice Marie Gronotte OSB

Sr. Alice Marie Gronotte, OSB (formerly Sr. Cynthia), 84, died peacefully at St. Paul Hermitage where she was a resident. Sr. Alice Marie was born on June 29, 1938, in Evansville, Indiana to the late Albert and Hilda Gronotte. She entered Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, Indiana in 1956. She was a founding member of Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Beech Grove. Sr. Alice Marie graduated from the Academy Immaculate Conception, Ferdinand, Indiana. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from St. Benedict College and a Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University Southeast. As an educator, she taught in several schools in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, including, St. Paul, Tell City, Indiana, St. Michael, Bradford, Indiana, and St. Anthony, Clarksville, Indiana. After several years in the classroom, Sr. Alice Marie began work in Parish Ministry in Cali, Columbia and then at Prince of Peace Parish in Madison, Indiana until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Albert Gronotte. She is survived by her sister, Sr. Phyllis Gronotte, OSB, several nieces and nephews and her Religious Community. Visitation will be held at St. Paul Hermitage on Sunday, October 2nd from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and then at Our Lady of Grace Monastery from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A wake service will be held at 7:00 PM in the Monastery Chapel. Her funeral Mass will be at 4:00 PM on Monday, October 3rd.
