Sr. Anna Rose Lueken

Sr. Anna Rose Lueken, OSB, 73, peacefully died on February 4, 2012 at St. Paul Hermitage, Beech Grove, Indiana. Sr. Anna Rose was one of eight children born to Herbert and Caroline (Uebelhor) Lueken in Schnellville, Indiana on December 5, 1938. In 1956 she entered Monastery Immaculate Conception and in 1961 became a founding member of Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Beech Grove, Indiana. In 1958 she made her First Monastic Profession and celebrated 50 years of vowed life in 2008. She received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from St. Benedict College and a master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Spalding College. In 1970 she received her endorsement in Library Science. She began her 50-year career as an educator teaching at St. Anthony School in Clarksville, St. Paul Tell City, and St. Bartholomew Columbus, Indiana. Sr. Anna Rose was a principal at St. Anthony, Clarksville, All Saints, Columbus, Little Flower, Indianapolis, Pope John XXIII, Madison, and St. Ambrose, Seymour, Indiana. She was the Administrator at the Benedict Inn Retreat & Conference Center from 1988 to 1995. Retiring in 2010, Sr. Anna Rose was the community Librarian. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Sr. Marietta Lueken, OSB, Estella Schipp, Helen Lueken, Marietta Smith, Maurice Lueken and Clara Mae Klem. Her brother, Norbert Lueken of Jasper, Indiana, several nieces and nephews and her religious community survive her. A viewing will take place on Friday, February 10, 2012 at St. Paul Hermitage from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM and at Our Lady of Grace Monastery from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Wake Service at 7:00 PM. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM with a viewing at 10:00 AM until the funeral at Our Lady of Grace Monastery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sister’s Retirement Fund, c/o Our Lady of Grace Monastery, 1402 Southern Avenue, Beech Grove, Indiana 46107. Little and Sons, Beech Grove have been entrusted with the arrangements.
