Arthur Lewis Sims

Arthur Lewis Sims, age 82, of Beech Grove, Indiana passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020. Arthur was born on January 22, 1938 to the late Harry and Mary Louise (Wottring) Sims in Indianapolis. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Miriam (Sims) Simpson and his brother-in-law, John Simpson and nephew, David Sims. Surviving in addition to his wife, Jean Ann (Weber) Sims of Beech Grove, are his three daughters, Lori (Sims) and Aaron Sullivan, Amy (Sims) and Michael Stevenson, Leslie (Sims) and Jeff Biltz; seven grandchildren, Leeann Sullivan, Lauren Sullivan, Brandon Stevenson, Max Stevenson, Nathan Stevenson, Allyson Biltz and Andrew Biltz; two brothers and one sister, John and Carol Sims, Mary (Sims) and Phillip Trueblood, Frank and Ronni Sims, and 7 nieces and nephews.

Arthur graduated from Beech Grove High School in 1957 and attended Butler College for one year on a football scholarship. He transferred to Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, and in 1962 obtained a degree in business with certificate in printing. He served as a Lieutenant in the Army National Guard from 1962 to 1973 where he taught business classes. Arthur started out working at Sears downtown location in appliance sales in 1965. He finished his career as a regional sales manager in contract appliance sales in 1998.

Arthur met Jean Ann while they were on a double date but not with each other. The double date did not work out and in 1961 they began dating. They were married October 23, 1963. Arthur was always a very active and engaged husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a Freemason, Beech Grove Lodge 694. He was known to help with fishing and camping of the Brownies and Girl Scouts that his daughters where in. Arthur and Jean Ann coached softball, again with their daughters, for 11 years. He was known to assist with the Beech Grove High School Band and served on the Beech Grove school board for four years. Arthur was the kind that never met a stranger and was always there to help. His grandchildren will tell you he was silly and a prankster. Something we all will miss about him.

A visitation for Arthur Lewis Sims will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Little & Son’s Funeral Home, 1301 Main St. Beech Grove, Indiana 46107, followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm.
