Charles "Charlie" Eugene Raye, age 77, of Beech Grove, Indiana passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021. Charlie was born on August 13, 1943 to the late Warren Ray and Polly Lester. He was proudly born on Bud Mountain in West Virginia but spent nearly all of his adult years in Indiana.
Charlie was a member of Southwood Baptist Church in Beech Grove, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a Sheetfed Press Operator for Shorewood Packaging. Charlie loved spending his time fishing, hunting and playing his guitar, known to his loved ones as "picking and grinning". He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Janis Raye; children, Tim (Amanda) Walls, Charles "Chuck" (Patti) Raye Jr., Jon (Rachael) Walls, Tami (Scott) Steepleton and Warren Raye; grandchildren, Brittany Walls, Haidyn Cleavenger, Emma Raye, Megan (Eathan) Brant-Karnick, Sage Dillman, Sarah (Dustin) Arnott, Sam (Ally) Walls, Jessi Walls, Austin Pickerell, Kennedy Steepleton, Stormie Raye and Warren Charles Raye; great grandchildren, Julean Waite, Sirius Beauchamp, Elizabeth Brant-Karnick, Oliver Brant-Karnick, Jon Eric Arnott, Tori Garmon and Trae Trotter; sisters, Vivian Shrewsbury and Teresa Cross; and the mother of two of his children (Tami and Warren), Sherry (Lewis) Mappes. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nelia "Jewel" Byrd; and siblings, Estel Lester, James Lester, Calvin Lester, Cecil Lester, Lucille Drake, Maxine Woosley, Mazie Green, and Surbur Ray.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Southwood Baptist Church, 501 S 4th Ave, Beech Grove, IN 46107, immediately followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM.
