Grady Stevenson Shipley, 88, of Mooresville, passed away January 13, 2020. He was born May 30, 1931 in Clinton Co, Kentucky to the late Joseph and Grace (Short) Shipley. After high school, Grady served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Grady was a police officer and retired from the Beech Grove police department in 1978, after 20 years of service. He was also a barber for Grady’s Barbershop in Beech Grove. After retirement he went on to run his own business, Grady Shipley Remodeling. He had many talents and hobbies which included fishing, hunting, farming, gardening and woodworking. Grady most recently made cedar crosses and enjoyed handing them out. He even made some for the Beech Grove and Mooresville police and fire departments. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #694, Kiwanis Club of Beech Grove and Bluff Creek Christian Church. Grady will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Grady is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara Shipley; children, Sherry (Greg) Hiatt, Dawn (John) Marino, Teri (Bob) Morgan, Dawn (Duane) Brown and Kelly Cummings; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Poynter; and many nieces and nephews. Grady was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, John Shipley, Guy Shipley, William Shipley, Flossie Harrison and Christine Burks; and granddaughter, Diane Doss.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Little & Sons Beech Grove, 1301 Main Street, Beech Grove, IN 46107. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 18 at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home during service times.
