Harry Fritz Goodwin, age 90, of Indianapolis, Indiana peacefully departed us in the early hours of April 19th, 2023. Harry was born in Beelick Knobb, West Virginia to the late Effie Ethel (White) Goodwin and Fritz Cooper Goodwin.
He was preceded in death by his son, Harry Scott Goodwin and his second parents (in-laws) Helen (Wilson) Evans and Ilar Franklin Evans.
Harry began his life in rural West Virginia as the eight child of eleven children. He earned the nickname early in life “Buckshot, Buck for short” being rough and ornery. He joined the US Army at an early age, serving in Korea and learning to drive heavy equipment. He used the skills learned in the army and parlayed them into a lifelong career in the trucking business, driving many types of small upholstery delivery trucks to the largest of rigs hauling steel. He married a beautiful redhead that captured his heart at first sight and still at 90+ years old on January 7, 1961. Harry was Dad to Cindy and Scott, along with many nieces and nephews and family of choice. Harry loved BIG, his hugs were warm, if you were his friend you knew it, and if you were an enemy best run! Harry knew how to live life! Work hard always, be kind, love your family always, and understand that rich is not always defined as money. Harry was a proud lifelong member of the Teamsters Union, Local #135 and was a long standing member of Woodside United Methodist Church.
Harry is survived by his beautiful, beloved and devoted wife, Sandra Kay (Evans) Goodwin; daughter Cindy Taylor, grandchildren Andrew Scott Edwards, Tyler Scott Goodwin (Lindsey); great grandson Allister Cyrus Goodwin and his sister Alice (Goodwin) Golden.
Harry will be laid to rest at a gravesides service with honor guard in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood, Indiana following a Celebration of Life to be held late May. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harry’s memory may be made to St Jude’s Children's Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
