Joseph Henry Schafer

Joseph (Joe) H. Schafer, age 62, passed away surrounded by his loved ones at Community East Hospital on February 19, 2024 after a long, valiant fight with cancer. Born to Loretta J. and Ralph A. Schafer on June 01, 1961, Joe received his GED and completed 2 semesters of college before deciding to focus on his career in software development. He found joy spending time with the people he loved most, arguing with those who would take the time, and learning anything that he could find on Google or in a book. He was very proud of his work with Nomad, RezPower, and ACE Rent-a-Car - which is where he dedicated the last 20 years of his life.

Anyone who knew Joe, knew he was opinionated, a talker, and very loyal to those he loved. He is survived by 4 siblings – Ann (Tim) Schubach, Tony (Carrie) Schafer, Paul Schafer & Jean Goodwin, 12 nieces & nephews – Katie Gosnell, Ashley Goodwin-Callaway, Crystal (Bobby) McFarland, John Goodwin, Andrea (Daniel) Buergler, Adam (Rachel McKay) Schubach, Joseph Schubach, Noah Schafer, Mary Schafer, Michael Schafer, Elizabeth Schafer, and Aubrey Schafer, and 5 great nieces & nephews – Aiden McFarland, Eloise Buergler, George Buergler, Ashton Neiman, and Emma Mize. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Little and Sons Beech Grove Funeral Home from 3:00pm – 5:00pm with a memorial service to immediately follow.
