Katherine Josephine Lamping Beech Grove - Katherine Josephine Lamping, 86, peacefully passed away on Monday January 25, 2021. She was born on July 17, 1934 to the late George and Rosemary (Hornberger) Speth. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School (class of 1952). Katie married the love of her life, James Albert Lamping, Sr. on April 16, 1955. Jim and Katie were lifelong Southsiders and faithful members of Holy Name of Catholic Church. The endless hours they spent together as proprietors of Ray Bros Cleaners earned them many longtime friends and love from the community. Katie’s entrepreneur spirit was instilled in her from an early age while working with her mom and dad at Speth’s Bakery. She always saw the good in every situation and everyone. Katie loved all things involving family. Whether she was baking chocolate chip cookies or cooking Sunday fried chicken dinner, she enjoyed and embraced every moment. She was a devoted wife, and a loving mother of 6 children, 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandkids. Survivors include Barbara Bruce (John), Mary Kay Johnson (Bart), Diane Gritt (Jack), Jim Lamping (Julie) and Mike Lamping (Marla). She was preceded in death by her husband James Lamping, her daughter Peggy Lamping and siblings George Speth and Theresa Cain. Family and friends will gather on Saturday January 30th from 12:30 to 2:00 at Holy Name Catholic Church, 87 N. 17th St, Beech Grove. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00. A Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution has been suggested to Holy Name Catholic Church.
