Robert Ernest Fisher, age 91, of Indianapolis, Indiana, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing he is now fully restored, and standing strong and whole in the presence of Jesus.
Born on October 28, 1934, in Beech Grove, Indiana, to Dorothy Deere Fisher and Charles Fisher, Bob lived a life marked by quiet strength, steadfast faith, and unwavering devotion to God and his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife and best friend, Carol Sue Fisher, loving her faithfully and unconditionally throughout their more than 40 years together.
Bob worked as Vice President of Hoosier Fence for 36 years and later as an engineer draftsman at Reiss Ornamental for 32 years. A man of routine, he faithfully enjoyed lunch at Murphy’s Steakhouse on Allisonville Road during his working years. He proudly served our country in the United States Army for six years.
He was a master of many talents, including creating beautiful paintings, building and flying model airplanes, and cultivating exquisite bonsai trees. He served as President of the Indiana Bonsai Club for many years, generously sharing his knowledge and passion with others.
Bob was a proud and loving father to his children, Shellie Butrum and Michael Fisher (Stacey); stepdaughters, Christine Harmon (Mike) and Suzanne McGraw (Pat); and a cherished grandfather to Chad, Kristin, Amanda, Kyle, Roland, Michaela, Elise, Reece, Andy, Joshua, Ariel, Matthew, Merrick, Conor, and Caulin, as well as 14 great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest earthly treasure. He led them not with loud words, but through steady example, integrity, and faithful prayer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Fisher; his brother, Donny Fisher; and his sister, Phyllis Fisher.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Sue Fisher; his brother, James Fisher; and his loving family.
A lifelong Christian, Bob served the Lord wholeheartedly. In his earlier years, he served as both a leader and State Commander of the Royal Rangers. An expert in scouting and handicrafts, he taught the Golden Rule to many young men during their formative years. He was not only an avid fisherman, but truly a “fisher of men.” He faithfully served as a deacon for many years at his church home, Lifeway on Thompson Road. His faith was not merely something he professed, it was something he lived daily. Even as his body grew weaker in recent years, his mind remained sharp and his spirit strong. Gospel music filled his days, and his confidence in his heavenly home never wavered.
He will be remembered for his sharp dress, his strength, his wisdom, and the deep love he carried for those around him. He was truly one of a kind, a man of character, conviction, and compassion.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
