To me, Shirley was the epitome of fortitude, patience, grace, faith, and beauty! She had grown to be quite wise and knew where she stood on matters, but was patient enough to let others have their own opinions. I guess you combine those two and I see grace. And the faith and beauty is obvious to anyone who has talked to Shirley and has eyes. I, my dad, and Maxwell siblings are very grateful for her time with our family! She will be missed on this side of the veil. Condolences to the rest of her family and friends on this side. We shall all meet again on the other side.

Shirley Malone was a great mentor to me. She and I were in charge of the Tri-Stake Laurel conference during my Junior/Senior year of high school. We planned everything and she taught me so much about organization and inspiration.  She listened to the Spirit and helped me to receive inspiration too. She gave me the confidence to run the meeting and make sure everything ran smoothly.  Even after the event was over, she always made me feel like I was important in her life. A great lady has left this world. Prayers for her family.

This is our group from the small Xian twig when Shirley was teaching in China.

I am sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing.  I knew her many years ago when she was a teacher for the BYU program in Xian, China.  I was an exchange student from BYU-Hawaii at the same university as she was teaching.  We were in the same tiny branch (twig) of the church in Xian.  She was so adventurous and also had so much heart.  A couple memories of that time: she went on a trip to Tibet and let me use her apartment while she was gone to have access to a kitchen.  She knew I was interested in a young Chinese student (who is now my husband) and she wanted to offer me a place to woo him with my cooking.    Another: she invited me to her teachers apartment after church one Sunday for lunch and offered me some grape juice, which was terrible.  I asked her what kind it was, she agreed it was very bad and she wouldn’t buy the same brand again.  She brought it to me, it looked like a bottle of juice but the characters said “Wine”. She wasn’t aware, she didn’t read Chinese.  One more: in our small church group we became very familiar with each other’s testimonies and experiences in the church.  I remember her sharing that she gave up smoking to join the church and she took the repentance part of her promise very seriously.  Before joining the church, she shared that she apologized to everyone she could for anything she could remember doing wrong.  She was a spunky, loving, kind lady and I am glad to have had her as a friend.  Love and prayers to her family who is surely missing her now.

Anyone who knew Shirley loved her for her friendliness, inclusiveness and her shining example of her love for our Savior, Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father.   Always did she say kind things about people.  
Some years ago Shirley invited me to go with her to the Chicago temple. It was snowing that morning, and Shirley came to pick me up.  We pulled out on the road and then Shirley  hit the brakes and said it’s not too slippery. Me thinking  Yeah right.  On our way up, she stopped at a service station for gas at which time I got out of the car and cleaned the snow off all the windows.   I really like to see clearly.  It snowed all the way up to the temple, but we arrived safely.  Thankfully, when we left the temple to go home, the snow had stopped, and the streets were petty clear.
Shirley will always be remembered for her beautiful example of being a wife, a mother and daughter of God.

I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother.  Shirley was a great and spirit filled Sister.   She is in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  She was the best hostess for single adults.  She was the best.  Susan Glawe-Begley.

My heart is breaking and rejoicing at the same time. I know her sweet Dan has been waiting a long time for her to return as well as sons and grandson. 

There are only a handful of people that truly influence your life and Shirley Malone was one of those people in my life. I loved Sister Malone, she was so kind and compassionate to me. She is a true disciple of Jesus Christ and someone I am so grateful that shaped and influenced my life in such an impactful and positive way. 

God be with you till we meet again.

I am sure her ancestors welcomed Shirley with open arms. She cared about them just as she loved her friends and family. She was a lovely and gracious Christian friend.

Dear friends and family of Shirley,  It is hard to put into  words what this dear soul meant to me.  When I moved to Florida over 12 years ago, she acted like my mother who  cared and loved me and  wanted me  to be happy.  I did not want her help. I  had just survived a divorce and a move from Ohio where all my hopes  and dreams for my retired life had been destroyed.   The last thing I wanted  was any  meeting with single  adults of  the  church.  Shirley would not  give up and I  agreed to come to one meeting to  shut her up. When I told  her that she just said OK.  That meeting at Mel and Shirley's home changed my life.  She saved so many lives with her kindness, her sweet testimony and her sincere love to serve others. I look forward to our reunion on the other side. God bless to all her family and friends.
