

Velma was a 1967 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. And, she married James M. Graves on October 10, 1968, at Central Avenue United Methodist Church. They recently enjoyed their 54th wedding anniversary. Velma spent much of her career at Printer’s Supply in Indiana and ended her career at IUPUI working in the Sociology Department where she also received her bachelor’s degree.
Velma was a voracious reader, who loved shopping, crafting, attending family gatherings, and traveling to see her grandkids. Her best friends were her sister Sharon and sister Carol who were her neighbors for twenty years.
Velma is survived by her loving husband, Mike Graves of Indianapolis; son Keith (Michelle) Graves of New Smyrna Beach; daughter Cindy (Eric) Sandeno of Slatyfork, WV; siblings, Creed Gross of Monrovia, Harold Gross of Indianapolis, Carol (Robert) Roe of Greenwood, Sharon Jones of Greenwood, Jimmy (Kim White) Gross of Indianapolis, and Diana Edwards of Greenfield; grandchildren, Kaelee, Mikey, and Kaitlynn Graves; grand pups, Isis and Princess; and many other beloved family members. She is now reunited with her parents, James and Cindia; brother Denton Gross; and sisters Veda Irelan and Debra Turner.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 31, 2022, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 1301 Main Street, Beech Grove, Indiana, 46107. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm and the family asks that you dress comfortably and “come as you are.” Burial will follow at Bluff Creek Cemetery at 6368 State Road 144, Bargersville, Indiana.
