Anita Bohls Lacy, age 90, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Houston Methodist Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on February 24, 1934, in Pflugerville, Texas, to Otto Walter Bohls, Sr. and Laura Emma Anna Fuchs Bohls. Anita was the youngest of four children born in the downstairs bedroom of their family home, which is now preserved as the Heritage House Museum (also known as the Bohls House) in Pflugerville. The House, once the heart of the Bohls farm, remains in its original location and was officially recognized as a historic landmark by the State of Texas in 2005.
Anita graduated from Pflugerville High School in 1951 as Salutatorian of her graduating class, then briefly attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas. She worked in Austin until she met her loving husband of 69 years, John Edward Lacy. Anita married John in Pflugerville, Texas on June 25, 1955. They moved frequently in their early years and eventually settled in Houston in 1966 where they built a home and raised their three beloved children, Janet, Beverly, and Paul. Anita dedicated over three decades to a local dental practice as a receptionist and bookkeeper before her retirement.
Anita and John have been members of Faith Lutheran Church in Bellaire, Texas for over 60 years, where she actively volunteered for many years. She taught Sunday School, served on the Altar Guild, and helped in the church office. She was a passionate volunteer for Faith House, a ministry of Faith Lutheran Church, which continues to offer affordable housing to patients undergoing extended medical treatment at the Texas Medical Center in Houston.
Anita was fervent in her faith, certain of Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished time with family. For over two decades, the entire family looked forward to their annual July vacations at Port Royal Ocean Resort in Port Aransas, Texas. Anita especially treasured early morning beach walks with her daughter, Janet, as well as our Saturday night supper at Snoopy’s Pier. Anita loved gatherings with her extended family, including the annual Bohls and Lacy reunions, which were highlights each June. She enjoyed traveling with John, and often with her sister Lillian and brother-in-law Gail, with Italy, Austria, and Australia as favorite destinations. Anita found great joy in the beauty of her garden, especially the many flowers and plants she nurtured on her back patio. Spring was her favorite season, and pink flowers were a particular favorite. Anita and John were devoted fans of the Houston Astros since the team’s inception.
Anita is preceded in death by her parents, Otto Walter Bohls, Sr., and Laura Emma Anna Fuchs Bohls, of Pflugerville; sister Lillian Bohls Thornton and brother-in-law Gail Thornton, Jr., of Wichita Falls; brothers Clarence Walter Bohls, of Pflugerville, and Otto Walter Bohls, Jr., of Austin.
Anita is survived by her husband, John Edward Lacy, of Houston; daughters Janet Carol Lacy Armstrong, of Houston, and Beverly Ann Lacy Martin and husband Rick, of Richmond; son Paul Brian Lacy and wife Kim, of Sugar Land; grandchildren Lori Michelle Sandbak and husband Ben, of New Braunfels, and their children, Hayden Paul, Logan Benjamin, James Bailey, and Luke Edward; Erin Lacy Simpson and husband Will, of Broomfield, Colorado, and their children Olivia Blake and Austin James; Shaun Elizabeth Martin and husband Alden Loredo, of Seattle; Shelby Lynn Montoya and husband Jacob, of Helotes, and their child Elliana Vail; Lauren Kendall Lacy, of Houston; Brian William Martin and wife Shae, of Little Elm; sisters-in-law Leah Goetzinger Bohls, of Pflugerville, and Jean McGill Abercrombie Bohls, of Austin; and many other relatives and special friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff and residents of The Buckingham Assisted Living Facility for their loving care of and friendship toward Anita since 2023. We are also deeply thankful for the kindness and dignity shown to Anita and our family by Houston Methodist Hospital during her final days.
