Charles (Chuck) August Vachris, age 74, passed away June 06, 2023 at Methodist Hospital in the Med Center after a short illness. Chuck was born December 22, 1948 to Julia and August Vachris in Staten Island, New York. His family moved to Houston when he was 11 years old. He attended Bellaire High School, then Blinn College and Sam Houston State University.
He retired at the age of 68 from PPG Industries. He was a manufacture’s rep and sold protective coatings in the Gulf Coast Region for 36 years. The majority of his time he was with Ameron International until PPG took them over.
He is preceded in death by his mother Julia Jacoby and stepfather Quentin Jacoby. His biological father died when he was a 18 months old. Also his sister Juliann Smith and brother in law Elmo Smith, sister Roberta St. Miklossy, brother in laws Robert St. Miklossy, and Robert Cleary. Additionally his niece Sherry St. Miklossy.
He is survived by his wife Nanci Vachris, sister Lynn Cleary, nieces Colleen Uriarte and husband Mike, Holly Murski and husband John. Also numerous additional in laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, beloved cousins and dear friends. He and Nanci were high school sweethearts and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He enjoyed staying active and played racquetball years ago, then turned to golf. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Houston Texans, Astros and Rockets.
We’d like to extend a special thanks to Methodist Hospital, Dr. Mohammed Attar, and the many Doctors in Cardiac ICU for their great care. We’d also like to thank the wonderful nurses in Walter Tower: Jack, Tiffany, Tina, Stephanie, KoKo and others. We’re so grateful to them for their care, compassion, patience and professionalism.

We will miss him terribly, especially his warm caring personality, quick wit and great sense of humor. A memorial luncheon will be advised at a later date.
