

Former president of the Houston Chapter of the American Society for Technion, past president of the Houston Society of Internal Medicine, Emeritus Clinical Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, died August 27, 2011.
Dr. Caplovitz was born January 18, 1925, in Liberty, TX., to Harry and Rose Caplovitz.
“Buddy” was a well-respected and caring physician for more than 40 years.
He served in the Navy V-12 program while he was a student both at the University of Texas and the University of Texas Medical Branch. While in medical school, he did research on the common cold and discovered one of the viruses that caused it, also receiving the Kass research fellowship. After medical school, he did an internship and residency in St. Louis at the St. Louis City Hospital. Then he returned to Houston to complete his residency at Jefferson Davis Hospital. After his residency, he joined the Air Force and was invited to participate in a joint Army-Navy-Air Force research project in Japan and Korea.
Dr. Caplovitz and his wife, Marilyn, traveled the world together for 61 years, completing their latest cruise in July. They and their family enjoyed traveling together whenever they could. A man of many interests, Dr. Caplovitz was an avid golfer, photographer, and fisherman. His home is filled with the orchids he raised.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Lori Bohm and Karen Barrett, their husbands, Richard Bohm and Terrence Barrett, and their children, Daniel and Allison Bohm and Drew and Gina Barrett.
