Dino was born on May 10, 1962 in Houston, TX to Salvador Gambino and Barbara (Scaffidi) Curyk. He grew up and attended Houston schools in the Sharpstown area. He went on to get his Bachelors degree from the University of Houston in 1985 and a Masters of Social Work from UH in 1992. After graduating with his Bachelors degree, he worked for Hope Center for Youth as a camp guidance counsellor at a wilderness camp for troubled youth.
He met his wife Amy Kent when they were both working at Astroworld in 1982 and were married in 1989. He was a loving and devoted father to Michael (born 1991), Sarah (born 1994) and Elizabeth (born 1997). He was a shining example of what stay-at-home fatherhood should look like. From warming up socks in the microwave on cold mornings to packing lunches every day for the kids for twenty years, he could always be found spending his time making sure his family was fed, loved, and some would even say spoiled.
Dino loved nothing more than to play music with his brother and best friend, David Culbreth, and all of his talented friends. He was a resident musician at the Last Concert Café for many years with the bands PotRoast and Hell In A Bucket in recent years. He was a virtuoso with the blues harmonica and graced many stages with his soulful harmonica riffs. He also enjoyed cooking for his loved ones; not a single person could resist his holiday pralines and fudge. Dino was a unique soul who marched to the beat of his own drum. He was determined to live life as he wanted to – with kindness, compassion and empathy, and humility to boot. Spectacular in every way in his tie-dyes and band tees, Dino Gambino is not the kind of man that is easily forgotten. He will live on in our hearts and our songs forever.
Dino is predeceased by his father Salvador Gambino. His survivors include his wife Amy and his children Michael, Sarah and Elizabeth, his mother and stepfather Barbara and Stephen Curyk, his stepmother Patty Gambino, his sister Diane McWhorter (David) and brothers Sal Gambino (Dana), Rick Gambino, Charles Culbreth (Selina), David Culbreth (Lacey) and countless special family and friends. Dino will be missed greatly by his loving family and friends.
Even though his time here on earth wasn’t the longest, you couldn’t say he didn’t live it to the fullest.
Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 17, 2021 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home.
