

He attended West University Elementary, Pershing Jr. High, and graduated from Lamar High School in 1943 and proceeded to enroll at Rice University. After a year at Rice, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and commissioned an Ensign in 1946, upon which he was discharged as a ready reserve. He returned to Rice University to continue his studies in Mechanical Engineering, in which he earned a BS degree in 1949. In this same year, he met his future bride, Catherine D. Johnson, whom he then married in December 1951. They were married for 62 wonderful years, while raising two children.
Edgar was a very active Catholic, serving as a Eucharist Minister and Lector. He was one of several who organized the Men’s Choir at Corpus Christi Catholic Church and then at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Also, while at St. Thomas More, he served as a school board member, president of the Parish Council, lector coordinator, liturgy writer, vocation committee member, and minister to the sick.
He is survived by his daughter, Sara (Charles) Hurley and son Edgar (Margie) Sharp III; three grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Hurley, Jessica Sharp, Megan Sharp and three step-grandchildren, Diane Mercado, April Jaimes and Amanda Perez. His wife, Catherine Sharp, and parents, Edgar C. Sharp Sr. and Emma L. Sharp, preceded him in death. The family asks for no flowers and would prefer that you donate to your favorite charity.
