Edith Spossey-Sax RN, MSN, GNP-BC, age 50, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014. She was born November 14, 1963, in Houston, Texas. Edith was a magnanimous woman who lived life to the fullest at each and every moment. She was many things to many people in this life.
She was the dear mother of Natasha Nazareen Rafiq, Christopher Allen Spossey, Brooke Alexa Spossey and Trey Anthony Spossey. She was the loving wife of Steve Sax MD; she was and will always be the one true love of his life. She was a loving stepmother to Steve’s three children, Jason Sax and wife Lauren Nevitt and their newborn daughter Julia Irie (the first of many grandchildren to come for Edie and Steve), David Sax and his wife Kasey Josephs, and daughter Aimee Sax. She was a magnificent sister to her two brothers, Walter and Gregory Hayes and sister Leanne Purdum. She was a wonderful daughter to Don and Margaret Purdum, who Edie loved dearly and always kept close to her heart. She is preceded in death by her two best friends/sisters Teresa Hayes (1960-1973) and Janet Hayes (1962-2007). She was Aunt Edie to niece, Ashley Hayes, and nephews, Taylor, Harrison, and Wylie Hayes. She was the soon-to-be mother-in-law of Brian McNeal (Brooke’s partner) and Samantha Aldridge (Trey’s partner) as well as an honorary mother figure to Sarah Acosta over the past 15 years. Edith had a profound impact on each and every person she met in this life.
Professionally, she dedicated her life to the care of the geriatric community. She was an exquisite and playful mother who lived for her children every day she was alive, and for that we will be forever grateful. The last ten beautiful years of her life were shared with her husband Steve, who Edie saw as the most perfect and the most interesting man in this world. They were the light of each other’s lives.
Family and friends are asked to join us on Wednesday April 30th, 2014, 12:00 p.m. at Levy Funeral Home to celebrate the life of our rare gem, Edith Spossey-Sax. The family is requesting that attendees wear hues of green or colorful ensembles to honor the vivid life that Edie lived.
Edith’s mission in her professional life was to take care of the elderly; therefore we ask that donations be made to the Mary Opal Wolanin Graduate and Undergraduate Scholarship Fund www.ngna.org
The family will be receiving visitors on Thursday, May 1st and Friday, May 2nd between the hours of 3:00PM to 7:00PM at Steve and Edie's house.
