Harriette Louise Bennett was born on December 26, 1940, in Texarkana, Texas, to Sam and Essie Bennett. The youngest of three children, she grew up alongside her siblings Mary Elizabeth and James Wesley. Harriette attended local schools in Texarkana and graduated from the esteemed Dunbar High School in 1958.
In 1962, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Texas Southern University (TSU) in Houston, Texas. While at TSU, she became a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Her teaching career began in Hobbs, New Mexico, before returning to TSU to pursue graduate studies in education.
Harriette went on to serve the North Forest Independent School District (NFISD) with distinction. She began as an elementary school teacher and later earned her administrative certification, serving as Assistant Principal over a remarkable 42-year career in education.
In 1971, she married Charles H. Bryant, and they welcomed a daughter, Tracee Elizabeth. A devoted and loving mother, Harriette was affectionately known as "HB" to Tracee’s friends across the various cities Tracee lived in, including New Orleans, Baltimore, and Austin.
A dedicated member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church for 42 years, Harriette actively participated in the food pantry and the Adoration Chapel. Known for her integrity and commitment to service, she was a mentor, loyal friend, and a passionate community advocate. She had a deep love for music, travel—both domestic and international—and sought out new experiences with those she loved.
Following her retirement, Harriette stayed active and engaged. She was a Houston Texans season ticket holder, enjoyed line dancing at the local gym, participated in Silver Sneakers fitness classes, and remained deeply involved in community service and social events. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her beloved grandson, who was the light of her life. She also cherished reconnecting with old classmates through the Texarkana Dunbar High School National Alumni Association and staying close to her NFISD Forever Friends.
Harriette was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Thomas. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service, survived by her daughter Tracee Hall (Justin), grandson Bryant Christopher Hall, and a wide circle of family and dear friends who will celebrate and honor her remarkable life.
A Funeral Mass will be held on July 31, 2025, at St Thomas More Catholic Church, located at 10330 Hillcroft St, Houston, TX 77096, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Following the Funeral Mass, a Repast will occur at the same location, beginning at 11:45 am.
