

Isabel Maria Nart of Houston, Texas was born in Havana, Cuba on October 12, 1954. She passed away in her home on February 12, 2025 at the age of 70. Isabel’s family was fortunate to immigrate to the United States in 1960. She attended Hillsboro High School and Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena. She graduated with a B.S. degree in Psychology from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas where she was the student government Vice President. Isabel also attended the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin where she received a Master’s degree in Public Affairs.
Isabel spent 12 years working at Houston Lighting and Power in Government Affairs. Then, she spent 4 years at Houston Community College as Director of Governmental Affairs. She finished her career as Manager of Institutional Giving at Theatre Under the Stars, where she worked for 14 years before retiring in 2019.
Isabel was a founding board member of Girls Inc. of Greater Houston. She was a committee member of the United Way of Greater Houston, Greater Houston Partnership and Texas Taxpayers and Research Association. She served as a Board Member for Initiatives for Children, Houston Area Women’s Center, LBJ School of Public Affairs National Alumni Board, and the Alley Theatre. Isabel loved working with Gente de Teatro to promote Spanish language theatre.
Isabel’s hobbies included all forms of theatre, animal rescue, travel, and listening to jazz, especially live performances. She was an avid sports fan especially of the Astros, Rockets, and Longhorns.
Isabel was preceded in death by her father, Joaquin Armando Nart, MD. She is survived by her mother Isabel T. Nart, her brother Armando Nart, MD., sister-in-law Darlene Nart, nephew Christopher Nart and his wife Niki, niece Amanda Nart, and grand-nephew Abram. As well as by cousins Ruben Armiñana and his wife Marne, Cristina Cordero, Carmen Cordero and her husband Herminio, Cristina Juvier and her husband Jean Daniel, Edward Juvier, Carlos Calleja and wife Susana, and Isabel Calleja and her husband Sergio.She is also survived by her many close friends whom she treasured. Her surviving doggies are Gracie and Serena, two of a long line of lovable, cherished canine companions that brought her great joy.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 8th at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet at 11:00 AM. A light reception to follow at the facility.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Isabel’s name may be directed to the HSPCA, Lola’s Lucky Day, or other dog rescue charities.
