

Jimmy Snell was born on April 9, 1936, in Weleetka, Oklahoma to Graydon and Lenore Snell. He died on July 1, 2021, at the age of 85. Jimmy attended high school in Eunice, New Mexico where he lettered in basketball and band. After high school, Jimmy attended Texas Tech University and achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Accounting. While attending Texas Tech, he was a member of the Goin' Band from Raiderland and played bass drum. Jimmy was not given a middle name and earned the nickname “Jimmy None” from his college friends. He was also the president of Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity.
In 1957, Jimmy met his wife Mary Faye Leigon in the Albuquerque airport on their way to a college band convention in Salt Lake City. They were married in Truth or Consequences in 1961 and this spring, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. After college, he served two years in the United States Army. After the army, Jimmy worked for a CPA firm in El Paso before going to work for Texaco in 1962 in Midland. Jimmy and Mary Faye moved to Houston in 1964. Jimmy worked at Texaco as a comptroller in Crude Oil Accounting for 35 years retiring in 1997.
Jimmy loved traveling with and spending time with his wife, friends, and family, especially his two grandchildren. He was very active in the church and devoted his time and resources in service to Bellaire Methodist, playing golf, and anything Texas Tech.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Mary Faye Leigon Snell of Richmond, TX, son Steven Edward Snell and his wife Amy Johnson Snell of Liberty Hill, TX., granddaughter Madison Avery Snell, and grandson John William Snell. He is preceded in death by father Graydon Fordyce Snell, mother Carole Lenore Bruce Snell, son Gary Eugene Snell (’99), and son William Fordyce Snell (’63).
Services for Jimmy will be at Bellaire Methodist Church, 4417 Bellaire Blvd. Bellaire, TX on Monday, July 5, 2021. The family will receive friends and family for visitation at 1 pm and the funeral service will begin at 2 pm in the sanctuary. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Clarewood House, Bellaire Methodist Church, or Alzheimer’s Research.
