“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” ~ 2 Timothy 4:7.
Jody was born May 11, 1960, in Hinsdale, Illinois. She received a degree in chemical engineering from Drexel University, where she came to know Jesus and met her husband, David. She then moved to Houston, worked for Monsanto and received a Master’s in Geophysics from Rice University. After briefly working for Marathon Oil, she discovered her true calling while working at her mother’s school, Texas School of Business. In 2003 Jody founded Texas Health School (THS), with the motto “Caring for Others.” Her mission was not only to train nurse aides, medical assistants, and later vocational nurses, but also to use this platform to share the gospel and her love for Jesus with others. Jody was recruited to serve on the Council on Occupational Education committee and then elected to serve on its Board, serving for two years as Board President.
Jody was an active member of Houston’s First Baptist Church and the Joy of Living Bible Group. She also found much comfort in the CanHope Ministry where she met many of her closest friends. Her favorite things to do included traveling with her family, trips to the beach, and playing with her many dogs; but what she enjoyed the most was life with the Lord and being a child of God.
Jody is survived by her husband of 39 years, David Hawk, her five children, Rachel Rhem (Jack), Joshua (Flora), Daniel, Rebekah, and Hannah; her parents Judith and Joseph Aufman, brothers James Tracas and Jeffrey Aufman, sisters Jilly Bartek (Doug) and Carol Bement, brother-in-law Barry Hawk (Patti); nieces and nephews Matthew, Andrew, Seth, and Noelle; plus, many more close relatives and friends.
