On May 10, 2023, June Axelrad Silverblatt passed away peacefully in the loving presence of her daughter. Born in Newark, NJ to William and Agnes Ettinger, she moved to Houston in 1964 with her husband and children.
June was fortunate enough to find the love of her life - twice. She was married to Herbert Axelrad and they raised their two children. After his untimely passing, she married Dr. Julian Silverblatt. June and Julian’s family had a shared history with much criss-crossing so it seemed they were destined to join together. They just celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary.
June lived a very full and active life. She and Julian traveled all over, regularly attended the theater and arts, and was an avid bridge player. She loved her Tuesday bridge club and looked forward to playing with her wonderful group of friends. She always stayed positive and upbeat surrounding herself with beauty. She never met a stranger and could talk with anyone from ages 8 to 88. June had a wide and diverse circle of friends she adored. Her social life was one to be admired. But most of all June loved her family.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Axelrad and son, Robert “Bobby” Axelrad. She is survived by husband Julian Silverblatt, daughter Abbe Axelrad Ricken and son-in-law Jeffrey, grandchildren Robyn MacAdams, Herbert Perry MacAdams, Jacob Bryce Axelrad, and Jasper Allyse Axelrad, and great grandchildren Dylan MacAdams and Evan MacAdams. She is also survived by step-children Terri Brown and Barry, Keith Silverblatt and Shelly, Pamela Clark and Stan, and Cindy Reiner and Steven.
Graveside services will be at Emanu El Memorial Park (8341 Bissonnet) on Sunday, May 14 at 3:30 pm with Rabbi Roy Walter presiding. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations in June’s memory to Congregation Emanu El, The Rabbi’s Good Works Fund, 1500 Sunset Blvd., Houston, TX 77005 or to CASA for Kids of South Central Texas, 1500 S. Day St., Brenham, TX 77833.
