

Kent Manning Moritz, devoted husband and father, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 in Houston, TX after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in 1928 in Shreveport, Louisiana, he grew up in Houston, TX.
After graduating from Jefferson Davis High School, Kent was stationed at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. He was also very interested in Slavonic languages and was Vice President of the Czech Club while in College. Kent worked his entire career at Centerpoint Energy (formerly United Gas and then Entex), working his way up from the mail room to finally retiring as Director of Advertising and Public Relations. Hobbies included gardening (member of the Houston Rose Society), reading, and spending time with his family. He was also a history buff and enjoyed watching wartime era movies as well as science fiction. Kent loved 40’s-50’s big band music and listened to Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and other musicians from that era. His easy-going personality and sense of humor was enjoyed by all who knew him.
Kent is preceded in death by his father, Ralph (Hank) Moritz, his stepfather, David C. Sessums and mother, Florence; and his sister, Barbara Jean. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Wanda; his daughter, Kenda and her husband, Thomas C. Oster; sons, Paul Manning and Christopher Brian and his wife, Pamela Joy and their daughters, Alexa Joy and Brianna Faith; daughter, Bentley Ann; and sister, Frances Bray.
A memorial service in celebration of Kent’s life will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2012, 10:00am at Earthman Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris, Bellaire, TX 77401.
