

LaVerne Vaughn Wilson passed away peacefully on March 17, 2016. LaVerne was born at home in the Houston Heights, on October 14, 1920; she was the youngest child of Augusta (Miss Gussie) and (Robert) Guy Vaughn. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husbands, Kenneth Beyer and Vernon M. Wilson.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Beyer Harr, Linda Applegate (Don), Denise Moon (Skip) and son, Michael. Also survived by her granddaughters Christina Antonucci (Joseph), Amy Gnau (Justin) and Julie Crosby (Bubba). Gramma will be missed by her great-grandchildren Campbell, Everett, Annabelle & Georgia Gnau, and Caleb, Easton, and Hudson Crosby.LaVerne graduated from Reagan High School in 1938. She met Kenneth Beyer, 1st Lieutenant, Army Air Corps in 1941 and they married in Roswell, NM in 1943. Tragically, Ken was killed in a heroic battle over the Sea of Japan in December 1944. After WWII, LaVerne rekindled a friendship with Vernon; they started dating and she married the love of her life in October 1946. They were married for 50 years.
The Celebration of Laverne's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
