Luis Salinas was born on October 1, 1928, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, to his parents, Cayetano and Otilia Salinas. He is survived by his sister Emilia Roel. Luis was called home on April 13, 2026, after a life filled with love, lots of laughter, and an unwavering faith.
Luis graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Laredo, Texas, and then attended the Tecnologico de Monterrey. In 1950, he married the love of his life, the late Maria Esther Salinas, in Monterrey, Mexico. They lived in Houston for 37 years and together raised five children. Luis is survived by his children: Luis Salinas II, Robert Salinas, Edy Salinas (Teresa), Esther Kana (Tim), and Patricia Miles (Pat). He loved and cherished his 13 grandchildren, their spouses, his 23 spunky great-grandchildren, and his many nieces and nephews.
In 2003, Luis married Lana Sullivan, who preceded him in death after 22 years of marriage.
Luis owned his own business, Salinas Forwarding Co., and loved it so much that he continued to go to work well into his 80s.
For many years, Luis was actively involved in clubs such as Mexico Bello and Los Granaderos de Amistad.
