Marva Lee “Mickey” West (née Godwin), 90, passed away on September 3, 2019. Mickey was born March 10, 1929, in Cairo, Georgia, where she met her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” West. On the day they first met, Mickey declared to her friend that she would “marry Bobby West one day.” Just as she predicted, they married in Bowling Green, Kentucky on St. Patrick’s Day 1950. Mickey and Bob settled in Houston, and raised their three children. She was known as “Bam” to her seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, with whom she spent many a fun-filled “Bammie Day.” Mickey, who loved animals, nature, and the penny slots, could always be counted on for a dirty joke or a road trip to the casinos. A fiery and determined personality, she was quick to share her mind, but just as quick to strike up a friendly conversation with a stranger or to share a moment of compassion with someone who crossed her path. She opened her heart to many people throughout her life and will be fondly remembered by her friends and family as a larger-than-life personality full of laughter and a love for life’s simple pleasures.
Mickey is survived by her children Myra Lowrie and husband John, Charles West and his wife Mary Green, and Sue West-Tomlinson; her grandchildren Jonathan Lowrie and wife Anna, James Lowrie and wife Heather, Jill Moller and husband Frank, Erin Tomlinson and husband Rumzi Araj, Ashley Tomlinson and husband Marquéz Colby, Matthew West and wife Hilary, and Michael West; her ten great-grandchildren, Emily Lowrie, Reagan Lowrie, Joshua Lowrie, Daniel Lowrie, Madison Moller, Carson Lowrie, John Moller, Carter West, Everly West, and Zaid Tomlinson-Araj; her siblings, Royce McClelland, Cordell McClelland, Kevin McClelland and Treva Childress, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob, and her siblings Bruce McClelland and Hilda Vandiver.
A memorial service will be held at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet Street, Bellaire, Texas 77401, on September 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer Foundation of America (https://alzfdn.org/support-us/donate/).
