Mary Lou Elizondo Reid, age 93, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on May 5, 2025, with her loving family by her side. Mary Lou was born on December 16, 1931, in Benbolt, Texas, and moved to Houston in her early 20s, where she lived for the remainder of her life. It was there she met the love of her life, Jon Reid Sr., at Fish Engineering. They were married for 60 years.
A gifted musician, Mary Lou taught piano lessons for over 50 years and was a proud chairman and member of the Houston Music Teachers Association. She was deeply devoted to her students, many of whom participated in piano contests under her guidance. Her love for music never faded—she continued to play the piano beautifully until her final days. In addition to her music, Mary Lou also had a passion for dancing. She cherished any opportunity to dance, lighting up any room with her graceful spirit and joyful energy.
She is survived by her son, Jon Reid Jr.; daughter, Victoria Lafley; son-in-law, Stephen Lafley; and grandchildren, Chelsea, Sarah, and Jonny III.
Mary Lou was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was deeply loved and respected by her family and friends and will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on May 29th, with service and burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Dementia Society of America at www.dementiasociety.org.
