

Maurice Joseph Curry, age 89, passed away on May 9, 2011. Maurice (Maury) was born on September 28, 1921, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Joseph Aloysius and Mary Leone. Maury served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps at Iwo Jima during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1957. He graduated from Wichita State University with honors and was Captain of the Shockers Basketball Team. While at WSU, he met his wife Renetta Wertz and married on November 9, 1943. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage and seven children. They were long time members of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. In 1956 Maury and his young family moved from Wichita, KS to Houston to establish a Houston branch of a lithograph company and served as president for 30 years. He was a member at Riverbend Country Club since 1962 and enjoyed many rounds of golf with friends and family.
Maury (Moe) is survived by his loving children: Connie Curry Truitt, Roc Curry and wife Carol, Wrennie Knust and husband Gary, Mark Curry and wife Pat, Matt Curry and wife Cyndy, Pam Harris and husband Paul, Mesa Hodson and husband Fred; sister Catherine Ann Meitzner and brother Richard A. Curry; in-laws Mary Wertz McDonald, Jean Kline Curry and William P. McDonald and wife Viola; 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Earthman Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris in Bellaire, TX. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 6921 Chetwood, Houston, TX. Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Westheimer.
