Nancy Cole Spencer

Nancy was born to Oscar Verne and Elizabeth May Cole of Webster Groves, Missouri on November 30, 1926. She graduated from Webster Groves High School following a childhood filled with everything from her grandmother winning her a pony, to summers at Camp Miniwanca. After high school, Nancy attended Iowa State University, earning her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1948. While there, she joined the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and made many life-long friends. In 1951, Nancy moved to Houston before accepting a job at M.D. Anderson Hospital, becoming the only isotope technician in the city. She married George Otis Spencer, Jr. on June 18, 1955 and settled into the roles of wife, mother, volunteer, camper, and world traveler, all the while being active with her Bridge Club, Ruth Circle, Sorority Alumni, Girl Scouts and numerous friends. She loved crowds, dancing, travel, and mystery books.

She was preceded in death by her husband George and is survived by her three children, George Otis Spencer, III and wife Colleen, Peter Cole Spencer and wife Margaret, and Janet Spencer Kelley and husband Don; siblings, Tom Cole and wife Diane, Mary Naeher, and John Cole; and, long term caregiver Maribel Zapata. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, John R. Spencer and George A. Spencer; Meredith Spencer Brown and husband Alex, Sarah C. Spencer, William C. Spencer; Stephanie Kelley Kliewer and husband Anton, Spencer A. Kelley; and, two great-grandchildren Elke Jeanelle and Anton Joseph Kliewer.

Visitation will be at 1:00 pm with service following at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 28, 2016 at Bellaire United Methodist Church, 4417 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, TX. Burial will take place in Northboro, Massachusetts at a later time. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to Bellaire United Methodist Church. www.BellaireUMC.org/give
