

Robley J. (Bob) Bernard Jr. was born January 22, 1924 and passed away on May 12, 2024 at the age of 100. He was born in Houston and grew up in Arabi, Louisiana, outside of New Orleans. He was the son of Robley J. Bernard Sr. and Clara Meraux Bernard of Arabi.
He attended Holy Cross High School in New Orleans. Bob served in the Naval Air Corp WWII, and flew in PB4 Y-1 bombing missions in the South Pacific. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Louisiana State University. Bob met Barbara Ellender, originally from DeQuincy, Louisiana, when she was working in New Orleans. They moved to Houston in the early 1950s and were married for 59. He worked as a mechanical engineer for a company that made pipe used in the oil industry. He was a devout Catholic. He loved eating boiled crawfish, raw oysters, fried catfish and barbequing on a pit he designed.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara, their daughter Denise Elaine, his parents, and his brother Warren. He is survived by their son Bryan Alan Bernard and daughter-in-law Linda of Chicago; their daughter, Patricia Annette Bernard of Houston; their grandchildren, Rachel Kathryn Bernard, Daniel Robert Bernard and Hannah Ruth Bernard and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the care he received from Griswold Home Care, Cowans Home Care and Houston Hospice. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church or The Houston Hospice.
Visitation and a rosary will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet Street, Bellaire, TX 77401.
A Funeral Mass will occur Monday, May 20, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 8200 Roos Road, Houston, Texas 77036.
Burial service will take place at the Houston National Cemetery.
