Sidney and his family came to Houston in 1957 from New Orleans, Louisiana. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1987 after 48 years of service. He was a World War II Purple Heart Veteran and proud of his service in the U.S. Army. He was a charter member of University Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he made many friends in recent years.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Sidney Keene, Jr. and Michael Keene, his two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Elizabeth Keene, his son Jack Keene, and his daughter, Arlette Keene, three grandchildren: Julie Keene-Ropollo, Adam Keene, and Jonathan Keene as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service honoring his life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris.
