

2021. Rudy was born on June 19, 1925, in Columbia, South Carolina to Esker Ellis and
Alliene Hughes Amos. He grew up in High Point, North Carolina. After graduating from
Central High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in October 1943 and served
until honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in January 1947. He attended High Point
College on the G.I. Bill, graduating with a B.S. degree in Business. At High Point, he met
Martha Stephen Weinig, a student from Yonkers, New York. They were married at St.
Mary’s Episcopal Church in High Point on August 25, 1948. They lived briefly in New
York City while Rudy attended Columbia University Graduate School of Business. They
returned to North Carolina, where their three children were born. In 1962, the family
moved to Kansas City, Missouri and, in 1965, to Houston.
Rudy was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; his parents, Esker and Alliene; his
siblings, Esker Ellis Amos, Jr., Pearl Olivia Wadsley, and Elizabeth Alliene Templeton.
He is survived by his children, Jessie Alliene Amos of Houston; Sarah Amos Hartung
(Robert) of Alexandria, Virginia and Holden Beach, North Carolina; and William
Rudolph Amos, Jr. (Andrea Madsen) and grandchildren, Blake William and Logan James
Amos of Jefferson, Georgia.
Interment of ashes will be at a later date. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Grace
Episcopal Church, 4040 W. Bellfort Ave., Houston, Texas 77025.
