

Calvin C. Fritz, 87, of Belleville, Illinois, born March 9, 1926 in East St. Louis, Illinois passed away on Saturday, March 08, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, Illinois.
Mr. Fritz was a retired real estate agent for Four Star Homes who was recognized as a member of the Million Dollar Club several times and who also worked 40 years for Mobil Oil Company. He was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Belleville, Illinois, a former Justice of the Peace and Town Auditor for Stookey Township, Special Deputy Sheriff of St. Clair County, President of New Life Club, President of St. Clair County Health Improvement Association (HIA), Treasurer of Belleville Senior Citizens Center, a Lifetime Charter member of the Tribute to a Generation awarded by Mel Price, Jr., a Lifetime member of American Legion Post 58, Belleville, Illinois, and VFW Post 1739, Belleville, Illinois. Mr. Fritz served with the United States Navy as a Seaman 1st Class, serving on the USS St. George (AV – 16) during WW II. During this time, he survived a serious attack by Japanese kamikaze planes.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Mamie, nee Schaefer, Fritz and a sister, Marcile Rasch.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Frances E., nee Howard, Fritz, whom he married on June 16, 1946 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church; children, Howard (Nancy) Fritz and Scott (Kathleen) Fritz; grandchildren, Timothy (Marcia) Fritz and Angela Fritz; great grandchildren, Thomas Henry Fritz and Jonathan Scott Fritz; sister, Bernice Obrecht.

Memorial Gathering: Friends may visit from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, 3412 Frank Scott Parkway, Belleville, IL.
A Memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Patton officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
