

Mr. McCann retired from National Lead Co. (Tara Corp.) in St. Louis, MO after 47 years. He also worked for the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome. Mr. McCann graduated from Belleville West High school in Belleville, IL. He was active with Althoff Father and Friends club where he volunteered at bingo every Monday night for 27 years. Also, volunteered at Althoff football and basketball games. He was an active member with numerous things including men’s softball league at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish. He loved sports. In his younger years he coached his sons’ Khoury League team – loved golf – watching the Rams & Cardinal games and his grandchildren at their sports.
He will be deeply missed by family and many friends with whom he shared his life. He was loved by everyone who met him including all of the care givers that he has had over the past several years.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Mary nee Palmeri, McCann; a sister Marguerite Hogg and brother in law James Hogg. His father and mother in law Oliver and Sophia Frey, sister in law Armella (Jerome) Frey, brother in law Arnold (Delores) Frey, niece Kathy Campbell.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Loraine nee Frey whom he married August 23, 1958 at St. Paul’s church in Highland, IL.; his three children, Jeff (Liz) McCann of O’Fallon, IL., Debbie Placke of Swansea, IL., and Julie Travis of Burlington, WI.; nine grandchildren, Maddy and Tucker McCann, Alex, Lindsey and Sarah Placke, Patrick, Katie, Ben and Max Travis and 2 great grandchildren, Rowan and Dawson Travis. A brother in law Maurice (Kay) Frey and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Memorial Hospital & Memorial Care Center. A special thanks to Dr. David O’Neill, Dr. Abdul Jamous and Dr. Mohammad Vakassi who have taken great care of him for the past 5 years during his illness.

Visitation: Friends may call 4 to 8 pm., on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois and again from 9 to 11 am on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Our lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Belleville, Illinois.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Belleville, Illinois with Rev. Matthew Elie officiating.
