

Vangie was born in East St. Louis on October 22, 1928. She went to East St. Louis Senior High School and graduated in 1945. She married Louis W. Wappel on August 16, 1951 at St. Martin Du Tours Catholic Church in East St. Louis.
Vangie was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading, movies, and playing Bingo. Her late husband Louis was an educator for 35 years with East St. Louis School District 189.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years – Louis W. Wappel; her mother – Ruby Doyle (nee Field) Eisele; her father – William Oliver Eisele; one brother – William Lee (Dell) Eisele; two sisters – Martha Eatherton and Roberta Sculley; two brothers-in-law – Frank and Herman Wappel; and two sisters-in-law - Theresa Pier and Mary Kleine.
Surviving are her seven children - Stephen (Kathy) Wappel of Apex, NC, Michael (Barbe) Wappel of Spring Lake, NJ, Mark (Alicia) Wappel of Bedford, TX, Ralph (Janelle) Wappel of Longmont, CO, Angela (Joseph) Zurawski of Darien, IL, Paul (Patricia) Wappel of Springfield, IL, and Michelle (Gary) Wolk of Arnold, MO; 23 grandchildren – David, Jayme, Alexandra, Stephanie, Kristin, Jaclyn, Rachel, Ryan, Colin, Mandy, Blake and Kayla Wappel; Brent, Eric and Melissa Zurawski; and Philip, Justin, Gabriel, Stephen, Vincent, Marie, Veronica and Bernadette Wolk; one sister - Gertrude Piotrzkowski; and one sister-in-law – Dorothy Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Hospice (Springfield, IL) and the American Diabetes Association.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, 3412 Frank Scott Pkwy West, Belleville, IL.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 8707 West Main St., Belleville, IL, Reverend Monsignor Jack McEvilly, V.G. presiding. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
