Joy E. Schmidt

Mrs. Schmidt enjoyed reading, traveling with the S.H.A.R.E. group, visiting family and swimming at the YMCA, but her most precious moments were spent with her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Clara Barger; her loving husband of 62 years, Leroy E. Schmidt; one daughter, Gwen Polansky; and one grandson, Shane Hubert.

Survived and missed by her children, Christine Niemeyer of Fairview Heights, Illinois, Teresa Hubert of Auburn, Illinois, Joe (Nancy) Schmidt of Kewanee, Illinois, Janice Eleopoulus of Belleville, Illinois and Bonnie (Bud) Colston of Belleville, Illinois; one son-in-law, Kim Polansky; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way; one sister, June Green of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; many nieces, nephews; and other relatives, family and friends.

Memorials in Joy’s honor may be made to the First Christian Church, Belleville, Illinois or to Heartland Hospice.
